Well, this painting is a bit of a double entendre, both ways being pretty apt actually.
On the one hand you are seeing a depiction of humanity having been disconnected from the rising Kundalini energies (signified by the snake) in the body/earth slowing us down and preventing us from moving into a more enlightened race and a more positive time in history.
And on the other hand, you see a whole person (balanced between male and female shown as the lovers) who are protecting themselves in an unseen energy bubble from the influences around them of the reptilian brain behaviours (snake again) which has only proven to hold us back by causing mental oppression. The couple/whole individual has placed a protective bubble around themselves to prevent this part of the brain both macro and microscopically taking hold of them as individuals and humanity. This bubble gives them space to reset their innate human gift of creative power.
The tortoise in this image offers added protection and longevity, whilst also helping you to move forward by slowly putting one foot in front of the other to achieve this with discernment. He takes his protective home with him everywhere he goes so he is also helping you to look inwards and learn that home is where the heart is and is therefore within you at all times. They also have an incredible sense of hearing and here he is stimulating you to connect with your clairaudience as well as your clairvoyance and higher sense of smell - offering you higher discrimination. The crows can be seen two ways too - they are either a bunch of spies checking up on you to report back on your actions and whereabouts to those in power - or they are connected with magic and are symbolising your spiritual strength and are offering you help to trust your intuition and personal integrity so that you can create your own standards, whether or not they match those of the world around you.
Either way you look at this image (and it will probably change depending on what is going on in your life) this picture offers the energy of discernment to the viewer, offering you the wisdom to distinguish truth from error through constant practise.
